Andersonville Celebrates 28th Annual Historic Fair

ANDERSONVILLE, GA  --  Civil War Days is the theme of the 28th Annual Andersonville Historic Fair to be held October 4 and 5 in the Civil War Village of Andersonville.

From the kick-off parade, dominated by hundreds of Union and Confederate re-enactors, at 11 a.m. Saturday, to the mock Civil War battle held each afternoon, Civil War days will live again in Andersonville.

There will be on-going living history programs by re-enactors.  An outstanding collection of authentic Civil War uniforms, guns, swords, flags and documents will be shown at The Drummer Boy Civil War Museum on the main street.  William Templeton of Brunswick will be honored with a one-man show of his Civil War oil paintings.

Kathleen Walls, author of Georgia's Ghostly Getaways will be on hand autographing her book.

Old-time craftsmen such as quilters, weavers, basket makers, glass blowers, blacksmiths and chair-caners will be demonstrating those arts.  More than 150 dealers in antiques, Civil War collectibles and arts and crafts will be set up on the main street and in Pioneer Farm.

Entertainment includes military bands, Civil War era music by the Rebelairs, country music by the J.B. Slicker show, jugglers, ventriloquists, clogging, line-dancing and pony rides, mountain climbing and puppet shows for children.

A new feature this year is a special Excursion Train ride on the Sam Shortline Railroad starting 45 miles away in Cordele and traveling to Americus and arriving at Andersonville, mid-morning Saturday, October 4.  A mini-run of the train is also scheduled during the day from Andersonville to Marshallville and back with Wild West desperados re-enacting a train robbery.

The Annual  Andersonville Historic Fair hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.  Admission is $4.00 for adults and $1.50 for children under the age of 12.  The Andersonville Guild, the local historical society, sponsors the event.  Proceeds go towards historic preservation.
