The Penny McHenry, founder of
the American Hydrangea
Society, has been featured on
TV Shows and in too many
magazines to mention. Her
love for hydrangeas grew as a
result of a friend sending her a
hydrangea when she lost her
daughter to a tragic death.
She propagated that hydrangea
and the rest is history.
The American Hydrangea
Society has grown to have
members across the United
States and internationally.
The “Penny Mac” Hydrangea
was named for
Penny McHenry. This honor
was well deserved as Penny
shared her love and knowledge
of hydrangeas with so
many individuals and garden
clubs across the country.
Penny passed away in
2006 and in tribute to her contributions
to hydrangea preservation
and development,
we are pleased that Penny’s
family has given permission to
name this festival in her
honor.
