There may be no flower whose colors are as intense and as beautiful as those of the azalea in the bloom. Moultrie and the surrounding communities are covered with these magnificent flowers in the springtime. These flowers, along with the magnolias that adorn the countryside, help to remind us that there are still miracles of beauty all around us.
Colquitt County consists of seven individual communities. What began as gathering points for county dwellers amid the thousands of acres of farmland has gradually developed into towns and communities. Although not all of these areas have incorporated, they still each have their own unique identities and characteristics. From Riverside, which may very well be the smallest geographical town in Georgia (consisting of just 150 acres) to Moultrie with a thriving population of over 42,000 people, Colquitt County considers each community a vital part of its heritage.
Colquitt County residents spend much of their leisure time engaged in some type of community activity or sport. The seven hunting preserves attract many hunting enthusiasts from across the nation. The 2 clay courses, and the many gun clubs that offer skeet shooting, help support today's fastest growing shotgun sport.
If golfing is your bag, Colquitt County hosts three fine golf courses. Sunset Country Club offers a full range of club facilities and activities in addition to the 18 hole course and swimming pool, pro shop, restaurant-lounge, and cart shop. The Barrens Golf Course caters to golfers and their families. The 6046-yard, 18-hole course was designed and built by Colquitt County native Harry A. Carver, Sr. The Barrens is a par 72 with a large putting green and driving range for practice, a full-service snack bar and friendly employees waiting to serve you.
If you're looking for a quick afternoon of golf, try Rogers Gardens Golf Course on Industrial Road in Moultrie. This 9-hole course on beautiful greens makes for a great golf outing where you can perfect your swing.
To really improve your golf swing, head to LSI Family Golf driving ranges, located at 699 J.O. Stewart Road in Norman Park.
In whatever way you spend your leisure time, Colquitt County has the means to make it more enjoyable for you.
