August 23 & 24. Big Haynes Creek Wildlife Festival. Conyers, GA. Get outside and go WILD at the Second Annual Big Haynes Creek Wildlife Festival presented by News/Talk 750 WSB held on the Grand Prix Plaza at the Georgia International Horse Park! The festival is scheduled for August 23-24, 2008 and will be open to the public from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. each day. August 30. Flatlanders Arts & Crafts Show. Lakeland, GA. This show is held in downtown Lakeland, GA on the courthouse square from 9 am until 5 pm. Billed as South Georgia’s premiere outdoor exhibition, the 2008 event will be the 35th year for the Flatlanders Show featuring original, handcrafted arts and crafts, antiques and collectibles, a variety of foods and beverages. September 26 - 28. Plains Peanut Festival. Plains, GA. The annual Plains Peanut Festival is centered around one of the Sumter County community's claims to fame, its peanut production, and features the community's most famous residents in active roles. The festival kicks off with a 1-mile fun run and a 5-K road race. People line the sidewalks of Plains each year to watch the unique entries in the parade downtown. September 27 & 28. Riverfest Arts & Crafts Festival. Canton, GA. The Service League of Cherokee County will present its 24th annual Riverfest arts and crafts festival 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, at Boling Park in Canton. The event is sponsored by community businesses and features a wide array of artists and crafters, entertainers, activities and food. This year, there will be more than 200 exhibitors and 25,000 people are expected to attend. International cuisine and authentic fair food make up this year's menu for hungry shoppers. October 10 & 11. "Sherman's Last Burning" Fall Festival and BBQ Cook-Off. Covington, GA -- The Covington Lions Club sponsors this event at the American Legion Field on Mill Street in Covington, Georgia. The BBQ Cook-Off is a national competition of professional BBQ cookers in the chicken, pork butt, pork rib and brisket categories. The winner hopes to gain entry into the Jack Daniel National Competition. There will also be a Southeastern Reptile Rescue Show on Friday and Saturday. Jason Clark and his assistant will educate the public with venomous and non-venomous snakes. Jason's show will cause you to come away with a respect for all snakes that Mother Nature put on this earth--not the dreaded "a dead snake is the good snake". There will also be 100+ arts and craft vendors, a Ms. Hazard Beauty Contest, a kid’s corner, live entertainment, BBQ plates by Jim 'N Nicks Bar-B-Q and much, much more. The Covington Lions Club’s charities are the Georgia Lighthouse Foundation (for the blind), Emory Children's Eye Center, Georgia Lions Camp for the Blind and Dyslexic, Leader Dogs for the Blind, Lions Club Inter-national, Georgia Lions All State Band and six scholarships to three high schools.
